Jackpot fever: One Powerball site crashed Tuesday morning as the jackpot soared to a record $700 million.
The 파워볼사이트 went down in the early hours of Tuesday morning as a record $700million jackpot was up for grabs.
The website failed due to too many people trying to load the ticket-buying service.
The jackpot, which has been growing by $50million to $700million in the hours before the draw, represents the second-largest lottery prize in U.S. history.
Powerball officials did not explain what caused the crash but said that the site was back up and running just over an hour later.
The Powerball jackpot is the second-largest lottery prize in U.S. history. The jackpot is seen above after being announced earlier this month
Tickets are $2 a piece and the game is played in 44 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Drawings are held twice a week.
The prize has grown so large because no one has won the jackpot since August 11, when a group in California won $447.8million.
That is almost $300million higher than the Powerball jackpot of $435million that was won by 11-year-old JJ as his family sat in front of him at a grocery store in San Jose.
The odds of winning the Powerball are one in a 292.2million.
Powerball has soared since there was a winner in New York in August.
In that drawing, it was $245million.
The biggest jackpot in U.S. history was a $1.6billion Mega Millions drawing in March 2012.
And there have been two other Powerball jackpots that have passed the $400million mark so far in 2017.
Last June, a ticket sold in Indiana won a $536million jackpot – the 10th largest prize in U.S. history. And in January, there was also a $451million Powerball jackpot, which was won by two tickets sold in Florida and Arizona.
